Most politicians write memoirs in which they praise their accomplishments and avoid making too many revelations about indiscretions by themselves or their peers. Nevertheless, the former prime minister of Great Britain, Tony Blair, bucked tradition by not holding back punches when writing about himself or other global politicians the he interacted with. According to the Daily Telegraph of London, “Tony Blair says that people often told him that power was a sort of aphrodisiac and makes a series of frank disclosures about his relationship with alcohol.” Mr. Blair explained how his deputy, John Prescott made a huge mistake when he was exposed for sleeping with an official. His grave error was having an affair with someone he worked with. After details of Mr. Prescott’s affair with Tracey Temple came to light, Mr. Blair wrote, “strange thing, sex and politics.” As reported by the Telegraph, “the former prime minister says that people often told him that power was a sort of aphrodisiac. He muses over while male politicians take the risk of having affairs. He compares the situation to beautiful women who date millionaires.” Also when he faced renewed criticism on a series of fronts, Mr. Blair describes how he had to hold firm and fight. Depending on Gordon Brown’s behavior during 2005 and 2006, he reveals that he had virtually decided to depart from office in 2007. He notes that in February 2006, he prepared documents for a meeting with the chancellor and some of his closest colleagues and aides, which included Ed Balls and Ed Milliband. Basically, Mr. Blair made it evident that he would only step aside if his reforms were introduced. The Telegraph reports that, “Mr. Blair makes a series of frank disclosures about his relationship with alcohol, saying he was clearly at the limit of what was healthy.”
