Having the belief that your spouse may be cheating is one of the worst and must hurtful feelings one can have. That feeling of betrayal and pain can overtake your well being, personality and actions while attempting to seek the truth. The immediate reaction to the suspicion that your spouse is cheating is an overwhelming feeling of blood rushing through your body. Your body begins to warm while the anger builds. Then, most times, people begin to throw out accusations to their spouse without having the evidence to prove their case. When that occurs, the cheating spouse then has time to cover their tracks, end their relationship with the other person and deny all accusations. Overreacting will only leave you with your suspicions and you will never be able to prove you were right.

Over the years, having dealt with thousands of clients, our Investigators have perfected the role of our client in this situation. When you contact our CT Investigation Office regarding infidelity, our CT Investigators immediately inform you of a few things you need to do to maximize you chances of catching your spouse cheating:

1) Detach yourself emotionally and pretend that you know nothing. I know that it is easier to say that then to do that but it is the main rule. You have to allow your spouse, that may be cheating, enough rope to hang themselves. You have to act as if nothing has transpired since prior to the first time you suspected their monogamy betrayal. That way, your spouse can continue to cheat and continue to see the other person allowing our investigators time to catch them in the act. If you immediately confront your spouse, they will cover their tracks. However, there are times when our clients have already confronted their spouse and although it makes our job a little more difficult, many times, due to the cheater being self absorbed and believing they are indestructible, and above being caught. They continue to see that other person and we still catch them in the act. So do not be afraid to contact us if you have already confronted your spouse.

2) Begin to keep a log of suspected events. During the months ahead, while you are pretending that your spouse is not cheating and while our CT Investigators are compiling the evidence you need to prove their infidelity, continue to keep a log of suspected events. Any note pad or journal that you can keep notes in will do just fine. Begin to document the nights that your spouse comes home late, times and dates of when you cannot reach them on their cell phone, days they are off from work and whether or not you were able to reach them during those times, items you find that you believe are evidence that your spouse is cheating, arguments that you and your spouse have, (especially arguments you have that lead your spouse to storm out of the house), strange perfume or cologne scents you detect on your spouse and any other information that may come in handy at a later date. Although most of this information will never be used, if you do contact or hire and attorney for divorce purposes you will be able to use these notes.  You will also be able to use them when you testify against your spouse and not have to stumble over dates and times making you look like you are guessing and not presenting proper circumstantial facts.

3) Begin to look through your cell phone bills. Normally, when a cell phone bill comes in, you pay the bill and file the bill with the others as they normally have no use to you. Once you suspect your spouse of cheating, their cell phone bills could become your best source of infidelity evidence. Begin to go through the cell phone bills looking for telephone numbers that you do not recognize. I know that sometimes, going through these bills can be a bit tedious as there are so many numbers but what I tell my clients is to look at the cell phone bills during the time your spouse would normally be driving to and from work. Most times, when a person is cheating, they have to wait until they get into their car in the morning or afternoon to be able to have the privacy to speak to someone that they are cheating with. Those time, whether it be a five or thirty minute drive to and from work will be your best time to find numbers that will be suspect. Then, begin to highlight those repeated unknown numbers, each with a different color highlighter. That will make your job easier when you have to go back through the bills to see how many times he or she contacted that one number instead of having to again sift through all of the numbers. Once you find the two or three numbers that you do not recognize, contact our CT Detectives to break those numbers. Breaking a number is when you provide us with a cell phone or non published telephone number and we return to you the name of the registered owner of the number and the address that the telephone bill mailed to. You can then narrow down not only the numbers that you do not recognize but the people that your spouse is in contact with.

4) Try to find text messages on your spouse’s cell phone. This one can be a little difficult as most cheaters, the smart ones anyway, either delete all of their text messages or use pre-paid cell phones to text the other person. Either way, it makes sense to try to search through their cell phone to see if they have any text communications with any other people. When doing this, do not get caught as you will cause your spouse to begin to cover their tracks. If you do find text conversations, use your cell phone or a standard camera to take pictures of the text conversations to save them as evidence. Do not try to forward those text messages from your spouse’s cell phone as forwarding them will leave a trace and your spouse may discover that you are on to them. Many times, you will see advertisements or web sites stating that you can use cell phone spyware to capture the images, text messages, listen in on the conversations or use the microphone as a listening device while they are out of the home. It is R C Ranno Investigative Services (CheatersCT.com) policy to tell you to stay away from that type of software. We have discovered that 99 / 100 times when you purchase that software on line it does not work, either on your spouse’s cell phone or at all and you cannot obtain a refund. If you do happen to find one that works, by using it, you will be breaking the law and (1) cannot use the information you obtain and (2) will be arrested if your spouse finds it on their cellphone.. Stay away.!!

5) Rent a GPS Vehicle Tracking Device. Since your spouse is most likely having their affair while away from your home, it only makes sense to know where they are going. Renting a GPS Vehicle Tracking Device can provide you with real time information, 24 hours a day, that will show you where your spouse is at all times. The GPS Vehicle Tracker easily mounts either (1) under your spouse’s vehicle by using an industrial magnet which you can mount to any part of the frame of the vehicle or (2) inside of the rear hatch side compartments if your spouse drive’s an SUV or minivan. 6) Hire a Private Investigator. After some or all of the above have taken place, or even simultaneously, your next step is to hire a Private Detective. Private Detectives are your ground soldiers in your battle against your spouse’s infidelity. Our Investigators arrive at a location in which was pre-determined that your spouse would be, whether at your home or their employment office. Our Investigators then conduct a mobile video surveillance and follow your spouse around to each and every stop they make. Once they stop at any location, our Investigators begin videotaping their activities. If they meet with someone our Investigators not only obtain video of them together but obtain evidence of who that person is, (license plate, documents left on the seats of their vehicles, hear their name called out, etc.), and verify their name, address and contact information as part of our report. We enter bars, restaurants and any public locations to obtain video of not only the subject in an intimate situation but their demeanor when with the person they met. You may not need video of a sexual act. Many times, upon receiving telephone calls about child custody, the first question that is asked is, “How can I get full custody of my child?” As CT Private Investigators, as soon as we hear that question, we know that our client really means, how can I prevent my husband or wife from obtaining custody of my child or children. From the tone of their voice, our CT Investigators can usually and immediately tell the situation that our client’s child or children may be in is a dangerous or neglectful one. Due to the severity of the situation, we feel that it is only fair that we disclose to you that your situation will most likely not be fixed or mended during our free telephone consultation but over a short period of time, working together, our CT Detectives will work their hardest to get you the custody you believe you deserve. This page, however, is mostly to provide you with information about most child custody disputes and how you, along with our help, can resolve them. Upon our initial telephone consultation, our investigators will first request that you speak with an attorney as we cannot provide legal advice. Our CT Investigators can only provide you with the evidence, the tools you’ll need to win your case.

When fighting a Child Custody Case in Connecticut, all decisions are made by the State Courts. Each court and even each judge will provide its own law in making a determination for which parent should receive full custody or shared custody. In the case when parents actually reside in different states from each other or from the child, the courts that will have jurisdiction over the decisions of the child’s best interest will be the court in which the child has resided in for more than six months. That court will most likely have the exclusive jurisdiction to make any custody determinations and unfortunately if any disputes are brought in any state other than the one that the court has jurisdiction, then most times the court will dismiss those disputes. However, if a determination was made in a state other than the currently jurisdictional state, prior to the child moving, that court will most likely have a continuing jurisdiction over the childrens decisions as long as one of the parents still resides in that state. That ruling is due to the standard that all states followed which is labeled as (Best Interest of the Child).

What is a child custody dispute? A Child Custody Dispute is when two parents, that are in the process of a divorce, are unable to agree on visitation and custody arrangements for the child or children in their family. Due to their inability to agree, that is when a court would step in to make that decision for them. The way the court sees it is if the parents are unable to make the standard basic decisions for the child for their arrangements, then they most likely cannot make decisions without argument about the child’s welfare. Due to that fact, one parent is then placed in charge of the child or childrens welfare and will have the authority to make important decisions including their medical, social and school. The process of having the control over the important decisions over the childrens welfare, even if the other parent disagrees, is called Legal Custody which is the right to make legal binding decisions affecting the child or children. Another aspect that the State of Connecticut Courts are concerned with is the Physical Custody of the child or children which is where the children will live and under what conditions. Usually the courts will grant Legal and Physical Custody to the same parent unless the living conditions for the child or children would best be suited with the other parent.

Although the State of Connecticut Courts can and usually do make most of the decisions in a Child Custody Case, approximately ninety five percent of all started Child Custody Cases are actually settled before trial. That agreement is usually documented by an document by name of a Separation Agreement. A Separation Agreement is an agreement made between two parties, both parents, regarding the child or childrens custody, the rules of visitation and financial child support. Even when a Separation Agreement is written that does not mean that it is set in stone. As time passes, lifestyles and situations change allowing for modifications of many agreements.

For obvious reasons, there is not one single factor that will be completely damaging to your spouse losing custody. However, the court that has jurisdiction will take any evidence or behavioral factor into consideration and will base it’s decisions on what is in the best interest of the child. The courts ruling then becomes heavily based then on facts presented. The court usually will consider such factors as the current age and health of each parent, which of the two parents show more responsibility when with the child, and who the child or childrens closer psychological parent is. Other factors may be who actually takes the child or children to school, attends the child or childrens school events, transports the child or children to doctors appointments and other factors of the same importance. In many cases, the court may appoint a guardian at litem or an attorney for the child or children in order to ensure that the child or children have their interests represented. That appointee will then interview the child or children for some time and will then interview the parents as well. Their report will then be presented to the court which will include their recommendations regarding the child or childrens custody. There are times as well when a psychiatrist or psychologist will be appointed to your child or childrens case by the court and they will also provide a report and make a recommendation.

Most times, when attempting to obtain full custody or have the other parents custody removed, it may be difficult. Most courts understand that relocating a child or disturbing their daily life habits and surrounding can be disturbing to them. For that reason, courts are reluctant to make any changes unless the new arrangements that are being proposed are better than the ones that they are currently living with. Therefore, when a parent is seeking a change in custody they face additional difficulties due to the uphill battle of removing a child from their current situation.

As CT Private Detectives, we are continually requested to conduct investigations to obtain evidence against the parent or party that current has some type of visitation on Child Custody Cases. Our Investigators conduct these investigations on a daily basis but always meet with our clients prior to beginning the investigation to ensure that they understand the consequences of the investigation and to make sure they take careful consideration and have a full understanding of what we do prior to starting the investigation.

When investigating a parent, obtaining evidence can be a difficult task. There is usually no clear line in the sand that determines a good parent from a bad parent. Each case has its own guidelines and judge who is determining what evidence will be allowed into court and which is used to determine the general welfare of the child. Some evidence is better than some others which our Investigators keep in mind when investigating your case. Some examples of solid evidence would be obtaining information, witness statements or video showing the other parent in your case having a drinking or drug dependency and more so if they are using either in front of the child. As a licensed Investiagtive Agency in Connecticut, evidence can also be proven by one of our detectives having observed the activity and can testify to that fact. Sometimes our investigators are requested to obtain evidence that a parent does not spend an adequate amount of time with your child when they have their custody time. That is usually difficult unless on the days that the parent has custody, they drop them off at a grandparents home or friends home and then depart for the rest of the day. Believe it or not, that happens all too often. Other evidence can be from leaving a child in an unattended motor vehicle while they run into a store or restaurant or if the parent verbally or physically abuse the child in the presence of the investigator. Unfortunately, any time of mistreatment that occurs behind closed doors cannot be observed and cannot be documented. There are privacy laws that restrict what an investigator can do to obtain evidence and if any evidence is obtained in that manner it would be thrown out anyway. Most times, during an investigation, we conducted background checks on not only the parent in question but the people that they affiliate themselves with while with your child or children. Upon uncovering a criminal background for the parents new girlfriend or boyfriend or that the persons coming and going from their residence has a history of abuse, drugs or sexual assault, that information can be used immediately to remove the child from that parents custody until a court has an opportunity to rule otherwise.

When our investigators are on the case, they document everything that the parent and child do when together in the form of videotape and photographs as you never know what will happen once the camera is running. Each investigation is different and conducted in a different manner.

Upon our CT Detectives obtaining evidence of the parent conducting themselves in a manner not conducive to Connecticut Laws, the evidence is prepared in the form of a detailed investigative report, videotape and photographic evidence. Being licensed by the Connecticut State Police, all of the evidence we obtain is admissible in a court of law. Depending on the evidence, it can end up being the central evidence presented in your child custody case in court. Of course, having a good attorney that can present the evidence in the most effective manner would be beneficial as well.

Most investigators, when trained as apprentices are explained the the most important part of the videotaping process of obtaining evidence is to never miss the money shot, (the video clip that proves or disproves the subject or claimant’s case). In doing so, those investigators never learn the art of telling the whole story. Imagine you were to put in a movie from a rental video store and upon placing the DVD into your player, the star of the movie came up in clips and pieces as they rushed through the entire story in only a couple of minutes. That would be pretty boring wouldn’t it?

Telling a story using a videotape is a much more advanced way of not only obtaining the necessary evidence to make your case but it also allows you, as the client, or a third party that has no clue what they are about to see, an attorney, judge, child, family member or the subject if being presented with the evidence of them being caught, with a full understanding of what they are looking at. Understanding your client and the needs they have and are paying for are a very important part of our CT Private Detectives job as well as getting the evidence.

When one of our CT Private Investigators receive your case, they first conduct a thorough preliminary investigation of not only the subject of the investigation but the areas, (the most common locations and terrains) that they frequent. That is done for the sole purpose of determining the best and most effective surveillance position to obtain the video clip that would best tell the story. Once the initial canvass of the primary areas is completed then the investigation begins.

Upon departing from our investigative offices in Connecticut, our CT Private Investigator uses a black screen and records onto it the time and date of departure which indicates the start of our investigation. That portion of the tape provides, not only a starting point for the story telling but also allows our CT Investigator to separate the days of surveillance that are conducted, providing a professional buffer between dates. Upon arriving at the subject’s starting location, which could either be a home or business office or restaurant, (any location that our detectives will know the subject is currently and can be found upon arrival), our investigator then begins to obtain B footage, (video clips of street signs, buildings, vehicles, items in the subject’s yard or business, or even people in the area). That is done to project the image of time and location prior to any activity by the subject. It also allows our clients to understand that our investigators are at a certain location, as was agreed upon. That gives our client, watching the video, a piece of mind to continue watching the story. During the investigation, if there is a time gap between the time our investigators arrive at the subject’s location and the time they depart from the starting location, our investigators continually obtain video clips of different identifying items surrounding the subject or claimant’s residence.

Then, upon the claimant or subject’s departure, our investigators begin to follow the subject to each and every location that they visit. While the subject or claimant is driving, (if driving is a factor in the investigation), our investigators will actually obtain video of the subject or claimant while in motion in their vehicle. Once the subject or claimant then arrives at their location, our investigators quickly but with stealth and accuracy, locate a still surveillance position that will allow the investigator to obtain a video clip of the subject or claimant as they exit their vehicle and either meet with another person or enter a local establishment, (restaurant, bar, church, adult store, hotel, motel or business location). Immediately upon obtaining video of the subject entering, the investigator then begins to obtain video of the location that the subject entered, the street sign and address label of the location, along with any other identifying factors in the area.

That type of video documenting is continued through the investigation and surveillance. It is important for an investigator to learn the proper video techniques and control over not only taking the best possible video from the best possible location, but also being able to conduct a surveillance in such a manner that they can have the proper amount of time to maneuver their surveillance in order to allow themselves the proper time to position themselves prior to the subject or claimant exiting from their vehicle. It is important to learn and practice these techniques over the years as the video that is obtained cannot be edited to make the evidential story better because the original will be subpoenaed to be brought into court if and when the time comes that the investigator has to testify about that video.

The final product, if conducted and completed property is a videotape that tells the client, you, the entire story from start to finish. If you didn’t read the investigative report, you should be able to tell, just from the video, exactly what the subject or claimant is or is not doing wrong. It is the difference between a professional Investigative Agency and one that is not.

Once we spend the adequate amount of time with the healing part of our meeting, my clients then generally seem to move from sad to angry. Once they are in the angry mode, I begin to move into the interview mode. I first ask my clients, “why” they think that their spouse is cheating. “What are the signs of cheating” that you have observed so much so that you have decided to hire me as your private investigator. My clients than begin to go through all of the signs of cheating that they have observed from their spouse. Most times, the signs of cheating are mostly similar. They cannot reach their spouse when they call them on their cell phone. They find a strange number on their spouse’s cell phone repeatedly during times either that their spouse is either driving to or driving from work. Their spouses started turning their cell phones off when they get home or start leaving their cell phones in the car. The amount of intimacy in their marriage has gone from normal, whatever level that may have been, to non-existent. Their spouse comes home smelling like a strange perfume or cologne or sometimes like they just got out of a fresh shower after having been out of the house for fourteen hours. In reality, there are a hundred signs that a spouse has been cheating but mostly they are the same ones. Each time, though, my clients have a different observation of how they observed their spouses signs of cheating.

Once I have established that my client’s suspicion is justified for an investigation, we move into the options part of the investigation. I first provide my clients with three options that they can use to catch their cheating spouse. We go through each option and determine if that option best fits the scenario that will catch their cheating spouse, whether or not they can afford that option and how long each option would take to catch their cheating spouse. The options offered to my clients are below:

1) The most time tested, true investigative technique used by my CT private investigation firm to catch a cheating spouse is video surveillance. Video surveillance is the art of following a suspected cheater around for a certain period of time attempting to ascertain evidence that they are dating or seeing someone other than my client. I usually pick our suspected cheater up at his or her residence or place of employment. We determine their vehicle information and establish a surveillance position on that vehicle or exit to the residence or workplace. Once the suspected cheater exits from the residence or workplace, I begin videotaping their activities. Upon their departure, I begin a mobile surveillance. I follow the subject, discreetly, around town, videotaping them at each and every location they stop. I document, either by photograph, video or note taking, the times of each stop, how long they were there, the address and name of the location and if they met anyone there. If the suspected cheater does meet someone, suspected of having a relationship with them, at any of the stops, the spy game changes. I then exit from my surveillance vehicle and attempt to enter the situation, whether it be a restaurant, store, bar, church, or hotel or motel, in an attempt to get videotape of the suspect cheater and their possible accomplice, together. I try to get videotape of them either kissing, holding hands, hugging, embracing, or if they are bold enough, having sexual relations inside of a vehicle. Now, unlike the movies, as a CT Private Eye, I cannot kick open a motel door to catch them in bed with my video camera. I cannot shoot video of the suspected cheater and their accomplice through the accomplice’s windows if I observe them fooling around inside of the house nor can I break any other CT Privacy Laws in order to get that evidence. However, each time, I document the cheating spouse and their accomplice along with their action with time and date stamp on my cameras and that usually does the trick. Let me explain. If a suspected cheater picks up his or her accomplice, I video tape them pulling into that driveway. I then videotape the accomplice exiting their residence or work and then them boarding the suspected cheaters vehicle. The time and date of those actions are on my camera. I then follow the suspected cheater to a local motel where they pull in behind the building to a secluded parking area. I then video tape the suspected cheater and their accomplice as they exit from the vehicle and enter the room of the hotel or motel. My camera, upon their entering together states the date and time as being, let’s say 1:07 pm. Upon the suspected cheater and their accomplice exiting, again alone and together, I videotape them as they walk from their room back to the suspected cheater’s vehicle. My video camera again has the time date and that it is now 3:47 pm. You, as the client, can come to your own conclusions, and so will your attorney and the courts, of what they were doing alone in that room for that amount of time. Upon completion of my investigation, I provide each of my clients with a DVD of all of the recorded events, a fully detailed report of each activity and observance during my surveillance along with photographs, taken from the video, which are inserted into the report. You then have the strongest evidence you will ever have of your spouse and their infidelity affair.

2) In this day and age, with a hurting economy, it is understandable that after I have discussed the above rates, which are reasonable but not cheap, that many of my clients, who really need to catch their spouse for peace of mind purposes, cannot afford to have a surveillance performed. As that is very understandable, I had to develop another way to help my clients. Because of that, I began offering the service of renting GPS Vehicle Tracking Devices. A GPS Vehicle Tracking Device is a small electronic device that communicates with a satellite to provide an exact location, in real-time, on a mapping system so you can observe its location at all times. That GPS Vehicle Tracking Device is then placed into a weatherproof, magnetic box, with a lithium 90 day battery. That box, with contents inside, can then be magnetically mounted under my clients, spouses, vehicles. Usually withing 30 seconds. I then link that GPS Vehicle Tracking Device to the satellite and email my clients that link. They can then check the location of their suspected cheating spouse every minute of every day, while at home, from work or even on their cell phones. When they cannot keep a constant eye on the GPS Vehicle Tracker, the program stores each days activity in the form of a mapping system as well as a road map which is a printable version of each address the suspected cheater visited, when then arrive, when they departed and how long they were there. It is a wonderful electronic spy tool for the 21st century and saves my clients a bundle of cash.

3) Now, while living in Connecticut has it advantages, it also has its downfalls. Much of our state, due to the high level of income per capita, which is the numerical quotient of income divided by population, in monetary terms, allow its residence to own properties with a lot of land and often times, in very desolate and rural areas. Conducting a surveillance in those areas is very difficult. As a private detective, I cannot always establish a proper surveillance position without jeopardizing the investigation as there is nowhere for me to establish a surveillance position, allowing me to hide in plain sight. Therefore, I sometimes have no choice but to request my clients to utilize options one and two together. I program and rent a GPS Vehicle Tracking Device to my clients and have them install it under the suspected cheater’s vehicle. I then link the GPS Vehicle Tracker and use that link in my surveillance vehicle to observe and maintain a video and mobile surveillance from a distance. What that does, in turn, is allow me to stay approximately 1/2 mile from the suspected cheater at all times and then, at each stop, show up just in time to get the video without them even knowing or being able to observe me behind them, following them all day. It is a wonderful and surefire way of conducting surveillance as there is no way I can get caught, not that I do very often, nor does it allow for the occasional loss of the suspected cheater during surveillance, which does happen from time to time. If my clients can afford it, it is the best option. It allows the best of both worlds and provides the most well rounded investigation for a cheating spouse, that I can offer.

Once that occurs, you have to terminate the investigation as the element of the unknown has been uncovered and in many states, the laws mandate that you terminate the surveillance as you then become an aggressor and are responsible for any accidents or damage caused from continuing the surveillance. The second side of the equation is being too far away from the subject you are following. When that occurs, you risk the chance of losing your subject in heavy traffic, street lights, and other vehicles getting between you and the subject, separating you and the subject to the point that you lose sight of them and eventually lose them completely.

Other factors that go into becoming an expert at surveillance is learning how to hide in plain sight. What that means is being able to sit in an area where everyone around you can see you but when they look at you, you either look the part as someone that belongs there or have proper shading from overhead clouds that create a shadow on your windows where the people around you cannot not even see into your vehicle with out approaching you. Many times, investigators utilize surveillance vans to block out any possible view from others or tint the windows of their surveillance vehicle to the point that no one could even see into the vehicle if they did approach the investigator. The real skill, however, is the investigator that uses normal vehicle, many times switching vehicle to avoid suspicion, and being able to sit in any area, hiding in plain sight, and maintaining a position where the subject cannot see you and any others that can, leave you alone because it appears that you belong.

During the course of surveillance, other factors that come into play which separate good investigators from amateurs. That skill is called maneuvering. Maneuvering is when an investigator, during the course of a mobile surveillance, can not only continue to follow the subject to and from each location without detection, but can maneuver the surveillance vehicle to a position where video can be obtained, discreetly, at each and every location the subject stops. That means, staying two or three cars behind, or pulling over onto a street location where the angle of view is still obtainable even after the subject stops, or utilizing parking lots, businesses and even private driveways where video can be obtained of the subject, exiting their vehicle, and either meeting with a person or persons or entering a building or private residence. The video clips an investigator takes has to tell a story from the start of the day to the completion of the day in order for the evidence to have its fullest effect. Other investigators that cannot maneuver properly will only obtain scattered video clips of the days events and may not even catch, on video, the only and main evidentiary clip of the day. That is why hiring the right investigator can make or break your case.

It’s easy to feel sympathy for the victims of a straying spouse (let’s call them the cheatees). And even easier to vilify the cheaters.

“We think of people who betray us as cads, bad people, immature,” says Steven Solomon, Ph.D., author of Intimacy After Infidelity: How to Rebuild & Affair-Proof Your Marriage (New Harbinger, 2006) “But most are normal folks who get lost in not taking care of themselves and their marriage.”

That’s not much comfort to the cheatees, who probably have a lot of anger, hurt and questions. Here are some answers to the most common cheating questions:

1. Should I forgive him and stay in the marriage?
It depends on his next step, Solomon says. Does he seem to sincerely want forgiveness? And how would you know?

First check: Is the infidelity over? If so, is your husband willing to do whatever it takes to mend the breach?

“A person has to be willing, at least for a time, to be transparent,” Solomon says. “You have to be able to see emails, have passwords, see calls, reach him at any time, vent without him getting impatient or defensive.”

Figure out what you’ll need in order to stay and use that list as your yardstick: Is he sticking to your list or making vague promises to improve? Don’t decide based on his words, but on his actions over time.

After a while of having your needs met, you may no longer need to call as often, to check every call, to see his emails.

“If you see that something has changed in him and his attitude,” Solomon says, “you can allow yourself to forgive, move on, and remain in the marriage.”

2. How do I let it go?
Forgiveness is important even if you leave the marriage. To be able to trust in your next relationship, you’ll need to move out of the angry, bitter place you’re in.

“Forgiveness does not mean forgive and forget,” says M. Gary Neuman, author of The Truth about Cheating: Why Men Stray and What You Can Do to Prevent It (Wiley, 2008). “Of course, you can’t just throw your whole heart back into the relationship.”

There has to be a plan for going forward, he says. Ask yourselves: What will you change in the marriage to re-establish an emotional connection?

For his book, Neuman surveyed 200 men in the U.S.: 100 cheaters and 100 who hadn’t. His findings? “The cheating group had a lot more distress and dissatisfaction in the home,” he says.

If he’s doing his part by letting you in on his day-to-day communications, then you have to do your part: Plan a new way to listen to and address his issues. That way, you’re part of a team, with a project you’re both working on.

3. I forgave him once, but he’s cheated again. Now what?
You’ve busted him a second time and he says he’s sorry… but is he? The aftermath is the key to figuring out when – or if – you should leave.

“If you hear and see the same things as after the first infidelity, you need to get out of the relationship,” Solomon says. “But if something fundamental has changed and he wants to make amends, there’s hope.”

The trouble is, after a first affair, many couples sweep problems under the rug. The cheater promises to change, the cheatee feels steamrolled into agreeing. But the first or second infidelity has to be followed by genuine remorse and a change. And if it happens a third time, just like in baseball – he’s out.

4. Did I do something to make him cheat?
“The short answer is no,” Neuman says.

Solomon agrees: “You didn’t do something that excuses cheating.”

Even if you’re the worse spouse on Earth, your partner can find better ways to deal with his unhappiness. “You can’t make someone cheat any more than you can make someone drink or abuse you,” he says.

But that’s not the whole story. Solomon says people usually cheat because of fear, loneliness or anger. “The betraying partner’s failure to deal with these feelings is what causes him to be unfaithful,” he says. Why else does he stray? Check out 6 Reasons Why Men Cheat to find out.

And many relationships that fall into infidelity aren’t that healthy to begin with. “That’s what lays the groundwork for infidelity,” Solomon says.

5. Is counseling necessary? Or can we deal with it on our own?
Counseling is a must, Neuman says. In some cases, cheating is a signal he’s having an emotional breakdown, so it may be a good time to get him into therapy.

Even if your relationship is irretrievably broken, counseling can help you both move on, co-parent if needed and have healthier future relationships.

Remember: A therapist’s job is not to punish the cheater or blindly back up either spouse. You have to be open to receiving constructive criticism.

“At the very least, get a book,” Neuman says. “But too often, people cheat, cry about it, and move on with no plan. Counseling forces you to admit there’s trouble, so you are both committed to making some sort of change.”

6. How can I tell if this was a cry for help… or an escape?
An “exit affair” that starts because a partner wants out of a marriage is rarely a conscious choice. As you go through counseling, you have to gauge if your partner is really trying to get back the intimacy you lost. (For emotional affairs, read Chaste or Cheating?)

Be prepared to let him go “if he’s just going through the motions, if he won’t answer questions forthrightly, if he wants you to get over it already,” Solomon says. “It takes a ton of courage to turn your life upside down, but it’s the right thing to do if you no longer trust or love someone.”

7. Do I tell the kids? If so, how?
Fire any therapist who says it’s okay to tell the kids. It is never okay to inform children, tweens, or even teens of a parent’s sexual infidelity. The momentary satisfaction you might feel at being the “good” parent will be stamped out by emotional problems down the line.

“It causes a much greater struggle for the child if he or she is angry at one parent over the other,” Neuman says. With one parent, the child’s anger can remain longer and cause much more damage.

“Ideally, you actually want the child to be angry at both parents because a child can’t stay angry at both for long,” he says. “They have to work it out.”

But sometimes telling is unavoidable, if say, the cheating spouse introduces a child to the other woman or man or the cheatee blurts it out.

Then, Neuman says, “all the betraying parent can do is explain, with honesty and integrity and genuine sorrow, that [he or she] made a terrible mistake and that they’re working to correct what led to that mistake.” To the child, it’s a reassuring message that sometimes good people make mistakes and do bad things.

Children may worry their bond with their parents will be broken. The betrayed spouse should explain that their parent-child relationship is separate from the one between the adults. If you decide to stay together, show them that you’re both trying to work it out.

8. How about our friends? Should we tell them?
Anytime you share this, ask yourself: Why are you telling this person?

“Are you telling because you want to hurt, humiliate, embarrass your partner? Or is it to get support?” Solomon asks.

If your motivation is revenge, zip your lips. You may get back together, and then you’ll have some explaining to do.

If you divorce, your ex will likely be at your kids’ birthday parties and school events, and your kids will be aware of gossip or hostility.

In extreme cases, a scorched-earth approach could push him to move away, making custody exchanges harder than they need to be.

Of course, you need support! So pick tight-lipped friends who understand the stakes. Get a therapist, talk to clergy, blab to your lawyer if you must (though, at $400 an hour, that’ll get expensive).

To everyone else, “we grew apart” will suffice. You’ll feel better later and know you did the right thing.

9. How do I know if he’s had safe sex?
You don’t. No matter what he says, you can’t be sure. And some diseases, such as venereal warts and herpes, can find their way around a condom. So don’t sleep with him – or at the very least, use protection – until he’s been tested.

“How demeaning and foolish would it be to put yourself in an unhealthy place?” Neuman asks. “If he did not have safe sex… he was making tremendous mistakes that could have killed you both.”

That just shows how lost he was and how much counseling is needed, he says. And if he refuses a test, then your answer to Question 1 is a big, fat “no.”

10. What are my rights if my husband is cheating?
- You have the right to be angry. You don’t have the right to turn that anger into a lifetime of bitterness.

- You have the right to divorce. You don’t have the right to move the kids without legal action.

- You have the right to demand counseling. You also have the right to leave if he refuses.

- You have the right to ask basic questions. You also have the right to ask detailed questions about sexual specifics, positions, sounds or techniques, but asking them may start a rabbit hole of obsession.

- You have the right to direct, honest answers, but be careful not to ask a question you don’t want to hear the answer to.

- You have the right to know that you were right about this all along, especially if he made you feel paranoid for being suspicious.

Rumors of a hot new romance between Meg & John are heating up, making us wonder if she was the reason behind the sudden end of his 18  year marriage.

Some people feel you shouldn’t snoop if you think your mate is cheating. Other experts like Ruth Huston and Dr Larry Barlow, executive director of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, feel that if you suspect an affair,  you should look for signs of infidelity like “ a shift in the relationship, unusual behavior, sudden communication problems and things of that nature.”

If your spouse or significant other is really cheating, there will be subtle telltale signs as well as obvious telltale signs. Of course, knowing what to look for is the key.  So if you suspect infidelity, it’s in your best interests to discreetly search for signs of infidelity, so you can either confirm or disprove your suspicions.

1. So you can focus your energy in the right direction. – You can waste endless time and energy speculating about whether or not your partner is having an affair. Don’t speculate. Investigate. Find out the truth. Search for telltale signs to confirm or disprove what you suspect. If you know what to look for, the signs will either be there, or they won’t.  If your mate is really cheating,  you can focus your energy on how to handle the situation.  If not, you can stop worrying and move on with your life.
2. To keep unfounded suspicions from poisoning your relationship and your mind.  - If you suspect your mate of infidelity, these thoughts will poison your mind and affect other aspects of your relationship, including your sex life, the way you interact with your mate, and your level of trust — just to name a few. We all know smart phones often are at the center of celebrity cheating scandals in the tabloids. Jesse James, Tony Parker, and of course Tiger Woods, are now all split from their beautiful brides after being outed as cads thanks to dirty messages allegedly found on their cell phones.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame “Kwame Sutra” Kilpatrick got busted having an extramarital affair with a staff member, was ousted from City Hall and sent to jail for lying about it.

US Weekly covers have been filled with details of troubled romances rocked by cheating evidence left on smart phones – reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian and boyfriend Scott Disick, Demi Moore and husband Ashton Kutcher, and Nicole Ritche and fiancé Joel Madden among them.

Getting caught with a phone full of incriminating evidence isn’t a new trend, but it’s a growing one. And it’s one of the few ways that celebrities are a lot like the rest of us.

Bill Gates rightly predicted in his 1995 book, The Road Ahead that we will live “documented lives… subject to third party review and scrutiny.”

In 2009, about 21 percent of Americans had smart phones, and by 2011, the Nielsen Company expects half of America to be using smart phones.

And a study commissioned by online gadget site Retrevo.com found that 38 percent of people under age 25 had “snooped” on their significant other’s texts or e-mails. About 10% of that age group who “snooped” found their lover was unfaithful.

About 36 percent of married couples of all ages said they check emails or call histories without their partner’s knowledge. Only 3% of the “married” group discovered they were being cheated on, according to the study.

Over the years, I’ve represented plenty of clients whose partner’ secret lives have been, well, exposed by their BlackBerry.

In court, an electronic trail of cheating left on a smart phone could end up being important evidence. And trust me, it isn’t just text messages, emails and pictures left on a smart phone that we’re looking for.

There’s certainly too much to write in a single blog about the wealth of information that can be found on a smart phone. Mining smart phones for data is certainly an evergreen topic in my office, and I’m sure it will come up again in this blog.

But here are a few things divorce attorneys will be looking for on a smart phone, if necessary.

• Deleted text messages aren’t lost forever. Instead, the message is coded so that a new message can take its place. But until that happens, the message remains on the phone. There are cell phone forensic specialists for hire to crack those codes.
• SIM card reading devices that are a lot like computer hard drive recovery programs – called SIM card spies – are available for about 200 bucks at places including EyeSpyServices.com. The device makes it easy to restore “deleted” messages.
• Cellular phone carriers can be subpoenaed for records. In former Mayor Kilpatrick’s case, the subpoena of his city issued pager produced 14,000 sultry text messages that led to his ouster.
• Your smart phone is also a tracking device that can offer the real-time locations of where messages are sent from, or even where a person is when they’re not using the device.
• Information provided by “spying” applications that are available specifically for mobile phones. These apps allow a curious spouse to monitor text messages, emails and other information sent from a smart phone.

So if you’re suspicious of your spouse this holiday season remember the smart phone – it’s the perfect gift to catch a dummy.

Okay, this story was broken by The News of the World, and allegedly they have photo evidence, but you have to PAY to see or read the stuff online, and I’m not paying for it. Especially when other news outlets are doing such a good job summarizing. Apparently, Elizabeth Hurley is screwing around on her husband Arun Nayar with an Australian cricket player named Shane Warne, the dude in the photo above, with Liz just a few months ago. NOTW apparently has photos of Liz and Shane in “a series of steamy-looking clinches.” The two know each other, obviously, and have been quite friendly in public before. SCANDAL. The Daily Mail has some interesting photos here, and here’s the basic gist:

Liz was waking up this morning to a string of allegations in The News Of The World after she was seen in a series of steamy-looking clinches with cricket star Shane Warne. The paper also claims that she’d spent two nights with the womanising Australian, 41, in his London hotel suite this week. The report says the pair were also captured on video embracing and kissing outside restaurant Sake No Hana.

A source is quoted in the paper today as saying: ‘They were so passionate they looked like honeymooners. It was electric.’

The News of the World said: ‘Hurley and Warne roared with laughter and chatted like old friends during the lively meal in a first-floor room. And at 1am they were spotted going down the escalator to the lobby area. While they waited for their coats to be brought to them Hurley reportedly pulled Warne towards her into a darkened doorway, cupped his face with her hands and leaned in to lock lips. After releasing from their clinch they gazed into each other’s eyes and smiled adoringly.’

They were also said to have flirted again in front of Liz’s ex fiance Hugh Grant during the meal on Wednesday night.

The 45-year-old actress, swimwear model and mother of eight-year-old Damian, who now runs an organic farm in Gloucestershire, wed Indian tycoon Arun Nayar in 2007. They tied the knot in a string of extravagant ceremonies that she sold to magazines for millions.

There were rumours last year that their marriage was in trouble, all hotly denied by Liz.

Hurley and Warne were reportedly spotted exchanging more lingering kisses after popping out of the cricketer’s luxury £1,750-a-night suite at the Bentley Hotel in South Kensington – less than one mile from Hurley’s London home. On their second night together, they were locked away in the same suite for more than 11 hours, the paper said. They were also seen smooching and kissing again during a meal on Thursday at San Lorenzo in Chelsea.

A witness told the paper: ‘They looked completely smitten and blissfully happy together.’

The pair, who first met in July at Goodwood races, have been exchanging flirty Twitter messages for months. At first, the banter was about the fact that they were initially reported as ‘old friends’ after their first meeting. But the tone between them soon got more and more familiar, with Hurley calling father-of-three ‘Angel’ in public messages that could be seen by her 35,138 followers, and the 251,281 people that subscribe to Warne’s Twitter feed.

In one bizarre message that appears to be a coded message from a dog, Hurley tells Warne: ‘Sammy sends you a special lick and says he’d like to put his silky head on your shoulder.’

More recent Tweets came this week when Warne messaged Hurley about a adventure park ride he went on during a trip to Abu Dhabi, saying: ‘I screamed so loud when ride took off I’m surprised you din not hear me back in the uk !!!’

Liz replied: ‘Oooooh, I loved scary rides – remember to scream if you want to go faster!’

She also calls him her ‘favourite Australian’ and calls herself a ‘Converted Cricket Fan’.

A notorious philanderer, Warne split from Simone, the mother of his children Brooke, 13, Jackson, 11 and Summer, 8, after a string of affairs. They divorced in 2007, but got back together in 2009 for a trial reunion. However, it didn’t work out though he still lives with his ex-wife in Melbourne.

There has been no response as yet to the MailOnline about the allegations from either Hurley’s or Warne’s representatives.
